Summer Haiku

This is the Haiku that I have made I picked this background because I thought it would look nice with what I have wrote. I learning that when making a Haiku you need to remember that it has three lines and the first line needs to have five syllables and the second one had seven and the last last one has five. I really liked making this because it reminded me of the outdoors. Also how much miss the sun in the west coast, right know we don't have the best weather.

Rise up

Thursday,December 17,2020

This is my part of the song. I put the photo as Jacinda Ardern because she is one of the leaders to New Zealand, I think that this bit of the song will go really well with all the things that Jacinda Ardern did for all of us when we were in lock down also just she is keep New Zealand very safe.

The Jump

THE JUMP

My heart was racing faster than anything in the world,I felt like I was going to just quit the whole thing and back out.I was fifty eight meters off the ground about to jump. I knew that after I had done this I would feel great but for now I felt like I was doing something that was way out of my league. The crowd was going wild like they were a heap of wild cheaters, they were really ready to see this jump. As I was about to jump I just imagined how proud my mum and dad would be if I did this and I tried and how much happier they would be if I won the whole competition.

I took a step forward and jumped, in no time I was in the air I did one front flip arch my back and I shot down into the water. As the water touched my face I felt so happy that I had done it and not backed out. When I came out of the water all I heard was I crowd going crazy clapping,I then swam myself out of the water were my sister was waiting for me with a towel in her and hand she had a huge smile on her face. I got out of the pool and went to a stand next to the bench where everyone was waiting for the next person to jump in.Once everyone was done jumping ( showing off as I liked to say) it was time to announce what place everyone came. There was twenty people jumping that day so I had some competition. As the man was saying who came third my heart started beating faster and faster. When he was announcing who came second I just looked at everyone in the crowd then just thought of my mum,the man said with a very loud voice in second place we have Olivia Mayhem! The crowd went wild, everyone was clapping and cheering and yelling out my name,I walked out onto the podium. I felt like I was the most awesome person in the world and that I could fly! When I went home and told my mum she looked like the most proudest person in the world.

And yes, that was the proudest moment of my life.

Rata

Rata

Rata trees have dark, glossy green leaves with beautiful bright flowers once they have bloomed. The flowers only bloom at Christmas time just like the Pohutukawa tree.
Did you know that the Rata tree and the Pohutukawa tree are actually related?  Both Pohutukawa and Rata belong to the genus Metrosideros, the iron hearted myrtles, a reference to their hard, very heavy, dark red heartwood.
Both flower in red around Christmas time or early summer and they belong to the myrtle family with Manuka and Kanuka.
The scientific name for Rata is Metrosideros Umbellata.
There are three types of Rata, Northern Rata, B/artlett's Rata and Southern Rata. The Northern Rata is more likely found in the South island and in Westport.
The Southern Rata is found all up and down New Zealand. The Bartlet’s Rata is very rare and is hardly found with its white flowers and pale, papery bark, which make it unique among New Zealand.

PJ Day

This week on Wednesday Autumn and I organised a pajama day for our whole school. We first had too find out what we were gonna do then we found out what we needed, once we had done that we worked on the games we were making for everyone to play.We made two games and a pass the passel, one of the games we made was like a carnival game when you had to throw a ball and it would land on the number and the number and id you got a high number then you would get a prize. Our other game was a hand and feet hand we printed out a bunch of left and right hands and left and right feet.next we laminated them and fingered out were what hand and feet would go,there was three pieces of paper on each line and and there were about six lines. You had to put the same hand a feet on the piece of paper to get past. When playing the hand and feet game at the start we would tell you a number, colour or too make it harder we would tell them a sentence they needed too remember the colour or sentence when they are getting past then at the end we would ask them what the thing was that we told them and if they got it right they would get a prize. It was really funny too see everyone fall over, get tangled or even get stuck because they would not know were too put there hand or feet so they don’t fall over.(Don’t worry no one got hurt but everyone did get a good laugh out of it.) We also did pass the passel that Autumn and I had made. We put lots of layers and lots of candy in them. After lunch we watched a movie and ate waffles, muffins and popcorn that Autumn Oscar and I had baked the day before. The whole day was really fun and we all enjoyed it a lot.

Open Day At John Paul ll

This week on Wednesday there was an open day at John Paul ll Farihah,Isaac,Autumn and I were the ones that went. The reason for the open day was just for year 8 wanting to go too John Paul could see John Paul and how it was.
We got taken into the hall and we started off with a prayer then the principle talked to us. After the principal talked to us, John Paul's head Girl and Boy talked to us about some of the great opochintes we would get when we go to John Paul. Then we all got split into four groups. Each group had about ten kids and four high school kids too gave us a tour. We went to the music and drama room and played some instruments and by the way I realised that I'm terrible at playing a ukulele. After that we went to the science room and did learn to do some cool things. After science we went to the woodwork room and the teacher talked to us about some of the things we could do there and what some of the kids were doing. After that we got took the baking room and we got to decorate cupcakes. We made fondant flowers and iced out cupcakes. After we went to the library and had some food and after that we left.

The Real Story Of The Three Little Pigs

Two weeks ago our class started to remake the true story of the three little pigs we were all gonna turn our stories into books. First we started by watching the video then we planned in our books. After that we wrote our story then we drew pictures for each bit of the story. I did not post the photos but here is my story.

One fine afternoon at Mr Wolf’s he was making dinner. He was making soup because he was feeling quite sick that day so he thought a nice bowl of soup would have felt nice.He put carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and everything that you would put in a soup. But when he was about to put in the potatoes he realised that he had not cut them up so he quickly ran too where he put the potatoes in his house and saw that there were none left.So Mr Wolf decided to see if his neighbour had any that he could use to make his dinner. Mr Wolf turned off the stove, put on his boots and a coat because it was chilly outside and he did not want to get even more sick. Then he left his house. His first Neighbours house was not that far away. Mr Wolf did not know the first neighbour very well, all he knew was that it was one of the three pigs brothers. When Mr wolf reached the first pig’s house he saw that it was made from straw. He found it quite stupid to make a house out of straw but he did not have anything to do with the house all he needed was that one potato. He knocked on the door and said to anyone home I just need some help. After sometime someone came to the door and said how can I help you without looking at who was at the door. When the pig looked at Mr Wolf he got scared and said in a afraid voice what do you want, just leave me alone. I haven't done anything to you.Mr Wolf replied no, no you got it all wrong I’m not here to hurt you.I just wanted to ask you if you had something.
Just when the pig was going to reply Mr Wolf felt a sneeze coming. He said oh no ah ah ah choo!Mr Wolf sneezed and the poor pigs house blew over! The Pig started saying what am I gonna do now I have no more house. Just as Mr Wolf was gonna say sorry the pig got mad and he started to scream at Mr Wolf. Then Mr Wolf went to another house that was next to the little pigs house.Mr Wolf knocked on the door and said is anyone there I just need something. A man came out wearing all back clothing and he had a mask on his head and bag in his hand for some reason. But Mr Wolf did not care what he was wearing or what he was doing he just wanted a potato for his soup. SO then Mr wolf said hello there I am one of your neighbours I just came over to ask do you have any potatoes that I could take for my dinner. But the man just ran away! So then Mr Wolf decided that he would only go to two more neighbors. So Wolf walked over to the next neighbours house which was the first pig's brother. and this pig's brother was just a little smarter than his brother because he had made his house out of stick. Well sticks aren't as good but it's better than straw. Mr Wolf knocked on the door and said hello is anyone there I need some help. The pig opened the door and said what do you want Mr Wolf! Mr Wolf replied no, no I'm not here to hurt you I just need to know it you have something. Then the pig said oh really you're here for that I don’t believe you. Just when the pig was saying that Mr Wolf felt a sneeze coming he tried to cover his mouth but he couldn't hold it in.And the poor old pig house fell into pieces. It was gone and so was the pig. The poor pig ran to his brother's house where the first pig was. Mr Wolf felt so bad for two pigs. But as much as he felt bad he was hungry and he wanted dinner. So then he decided that this would be the last house he was gonna ask for potatoes and if they did not have any potatoes then he would go home and see if he had anything else to eat. So then Mr Wolf walked to the last house Mr Wolf arrived at the last house and said hello to anyone there. I need some help. The pig said no go away you blew down my brothers house I will never give you anything! Just when Mr Wolf was gonna say more a man dressed in black with the same bag in his hand ran toward Mr Wolf.Mr Wolf stopped him and all the three pigs ran outside then police came after the man and before the police could see the man threw the bag at Mr Wolf and tried to blame him. When the police came and they saw that the bag of money was in Mr Wolf’s hands they arrested him. Mr Wolf said no, no you this all wrong I’m not he bad on that guy is. Because the three pigs were so mad they said no, no we saw everything that sad dirty old Wolf did, everything. Mr Wolf said no stop lying I did nothing. The police did not believe Mr Wolf and took him away.
And that was my version of the 3 Little Pigs. Thank you for reading.I know it was not the best but I tried.

Long Weekend Recount

Long Weekend Recount

On Saturday I didn’t really do much although we did go to New world to pick a few things up. We went around after one o’clock after mum came home. When we went we saw a lot of cool homemade poppies on the way to Greymouth and In Greymouth they were everywhere on the windows by the mailbox.Once again only one of us could go in and this time it was Mum. Dad, Riya and I waited in the car. When I was waiting in the car I saw a clown, I mean a person with a clown wig and clown noise anyway you know how a clown dress up looks like. He ran from the left side of the building and when he was running towards the exit he suddenly disappeared.Dad thought he was a magician but I just thought he ran behind a car.It felt like mum was gone for three hours but when I checked the time mum was only gone for ten minutes. Wow I really don’t have much patience. .Anyway we went to get fuel, Dad asked us if we wanted something. We said ice cream and something too drink. When we got too Kumara my mind clicked and I asked Dad if he saw any poppies that people had made to take a photo of it and I could post it on my blog so we stopped at the Kumara Hall and I took a photo. Then we went home and watched some t.v .Then at one point we got hungry so Dad made something to eat. After when it was time to make dinner. Mum made dinner and then when it was time to eat we all ate while watching a movie. Then when it was time to go to bed we went to bed ready for Sunday. My Sunday was not too much although a pig tried running my mum's car over. Mum was going to work at five in the morning when a huge pig came and smashed her car. It made a huge dent in her car. She still got to work but when she came back home and opened the front door the car's sound was so bad because of the dent being right near the door. Also I made a vanilla cake but I wanted to put some white chocolate chips in it so it did. We all ate the cake and Mum said it was really nice and soft. Unfortunately I didn’t make a big cake because it was really good! I didn’t really do anything on Sunday afternoon. We did our normal afternoon routine. On Monday we didn’t really do much besides doing the housework and watching t.v. Our Monday just went like any other day stuck at home.We had lunch, mum came home I made her coffee. Mum made dinner. We ate dinner, watched t.v and went to bed ready for a home school Tuesday.

additional coconut to sprinkle on top
    Preheat oven to 180˚C.
In a bowl mix together all dry ingredients.
Melt butter and add to the dry ingredients.
Mix well and press into a greased tin.
    Bake for approx 10-15 minutes.
When cool ice with chocolate icing and sprinkle with additional coconut.

My Day In Quarantine

One of my days in quarantine

I woke up at nine o'clock and got up and did my usual morning routine. Then I put on a puffer and sat in my bed so I could go to the hangout and do online school. Once the hangout was done I went and talked to some of my friends on Skype and did some of the Anzac Day stuff. Then I went into the living room and just looked at Riya which I have no idea why I did that. But then I went and brushed my teeth and did the bed then went back into the living room and watched some t.v. Then Riya, mum and I did some house work. After that we watched t.v, played or you could just say did something to waste our time. When it was two I went on the hangout and once the hangout was done went on tik tok and just scrolled through. Then after mum had cleaned the living room windows she came to our rooms and asked me to help her with the ones in the room so I helped her with the windows in the room. After that mum made a sweet then I fried some potato thing. I don’t know what they are called. Then when my dad came home we ate the potato things and the sweet my mum made. After that we watched the news then mum made some dinner. Then when dinner was made we ate dinner then watched more t.v then when it was time we went to bed.

Sky Diving

Sky Diving

My heart beats faster than a cheater running to find food. I feel like my heart will drop to my legs!We are just 20 minutes from the place we have to jump.as we get closer to the jumping point my stomach fills up with a dozen butterflies. My hands start shaking out of fear not knowing what will happen.we will jump in just five minutes everyone in the plane getting ready to jump the guide comes around and checks our safety gear one more time. We get to the point then one by one everyone starts jumping five people left on the plane four, three, two then one. My friend turns around and looks at me and asks should we jump together? I tell her OK but ask the guide first I don’t want to take any risks. My friend goes up to the guide and asks him if it was safe for two people to jump at the same time? The guide said yes and he even showed us how we had to jump if we were jumping together then it was time for us to jump. My friend and I decided to jump on the count of three we slowly count. Three two one we jumped!it felt like I was getting tickled on the next level! It was a sudden drop.My heart was telling me jumping from 4200 meters in Paris is a one time experience. Enjoy it while you can.

First Baking of 2020

Once again we have started baking and this year I'm baking with Jack. You can go and check out his blogs as well. He will also be posting every week. This week we made mini pizzas with Oscar,Teagan,Rhys and Kaylee. Everyone got to choose what they had on their pizza. We had three topping choices and three meat choices as well as three sauce choices. The pizzas were going great and everyone liked them until we couldn't find out why we had three extra pizza bases. When we were making the dough unfortunately when we were making the dough I think we added too much oil so the dough was a little too hard but after awhile of kneading the dough it became soft enough to roll out. In the end the pizzas were quite good. We asked some kids to give us feedback.

Rylee said that she liked the size of the pizzas. She also said that the pizzas were nicely cooked.

Hayley said that she really liked the pizza and it was a nice size and she liked that we were careful not to put lots of cheese on her a pizza because she is dairy free.

Day 3
Activity 1
Nanogirl

For this activity, please visit the ‘Build Tiny New Zealand’ website and scroll to the bottom of the page where you will find a series of Video Tours of tiny houses. Watch any three videos on the site. On your blog, tell us whether, or not, you would like to live in a tiny house one day. Please be sure to tell us why you feel the way that you do.

I would live in a small house only if I was living by myself or with 1 more person. But if I had my family live with me or friends come over that might be a problem.

I would want to live in a small house because

There is everything that you would in it so why not
If I were to live alone then I wouldn't want to live in a big house

Why I wouldn't want to live in a small house
I have a family of four ( I think my family would be too big too fit in a small house.)
We are always having guests over or family over so I think my family of four plus more family might be too many people in the house.

Activity 2: Overcoming Adversity [4 points]

For this activity, we would like to hear about a time when you, or someone you know, experienced a challenge and overcame it.

This is about me when I came to NZ and started school

My first day of school at Kumara School was funny now that I think about it but at that time it was a big challenge. I’m from Fiji and I came to New Zealand when I was 3 and at that point I couldn't speak English. When it was my 5th birthday and it came to my first day of school visits I was with my dad and I told my dad that I don’t want too got to this school I have absolutely no idea what they are saying. I don’t want to go to this school. But a few months later I did it.

Through Careful Observation

For this activity, we would like you to select one of the pictures below and to study or observe it closely. What do you see? On your blog, describe the painting in detail. What do you see when you look at it? Please give us as much detail as you can!

I see one place that is split into night and day. I see white and black (birds) flying over the place. The place kinda looks like a farm area. I see some trees and it kinda looks like there is a field of corn or something like corn. It also looks like an old town or village or just a small area.

For this activity please imagine that you had the chance to create your own YouTube channel. What would it be about? What kinds of videos would you create and post?On your blog, write a description of the YouTube channel you would like to create.

If I had a youtube channel

If I had a youtube channel might post some challenge videos or maybe videos of baking. I like watching youtube videos but having my own channel I think might be too much for me. But I think it might be fun once in awhile to do a funny video with friends.

Bill English
You have now made it to the end of Week 2 and have earned the chance to choose your very own politician or activist who you think has changed the world. There are no right or wrong choices for this activity, so find someone who interests you and tell us about them on your blog. It could be someone from your family, church, community and/or someone famous who you admire.
Bill English is a New Zealand politician. He was Deputy Prime Minister from 2008 to 2016.  He was born on  30 December 1961.  He was the leader of the National Party from 2001 to 2003 and 2016 to 2018, also serving two terms as Leader of the Opposition. Bill English is about 59 years old.

Leading by Example

For this activity, we would like you to follow in their footsteps and perform a random act of kindness.

My random show of kindness was about a week ago I think.

I was at the Greymouth warehouse and I saw this lady that was trying to juggle a bunch of things. I went up to her and asked her if she wanted I could get her a basket to hold all theses things. She replied if I could then that would be great. She looked happy because she was dropping a lot of things.

HUMANITARIAN HEROES

For this activity, please brainstorm at least five ways we could support the people who are affected by the fires in New South Wales, Australia. You could think of ways to raise money, things to send them, and ways to keep them feeling positive.

I would

Make a website where people can donate

Raise enough money to get food and water for people who have lost their homes

Make some cards to send over too people too keep the positive

Send blankets over for people to stay warm

Because it looks like there aren't enough firefighters we could send some New Zealand ones over or some from somewhere else

S.L.J 2019/2020

 Wise Words
Activity 3: Wise Words [4 points]

For this activity, please identify someone in your life who is a role model to you. This could be a parent, grandparent, neighbour, minister, imam, rabbi etc. Please ask them to share one piece of wisdom (advice) with you that they think you and your blog readers should hear.

S.L.J 2019/2020

Activity 2: Celebrating Diversity [4 points]

For this activity we are going to become more familiar with some of these amazing indigenous communities. Please click on the links below to learn more about these fascinating groups.

Ainu People

Australian Aboriginal People

The Inuit People

Papuan People

The Maya People

Once you have finished learning about these groups, please choose the two that interest you the most.

On your blog tell us the names of the two groups that you chose and then tell us at least two interesting facts about each group. To earn full points, you must provide two facts about both groups - 4 facts in total.

I am doing The Inuit People and Australian Aboriginal People

  • Aboriginal Australians have lived on the continent for over 50,000 years.
  • All Aboriginal Australians are related to groups indigenous to Australia.
  • Between 1910 and 1970, government policies of assimilation led to between 10 and 33 percent of Aboriginal Australian children being forcibly removed from their homes
  • Humans are thought to have migrated to Northern Australia from Asia using primitive boats.

  • There are four Inuit regions in Canada, collectively known as Inuit Nunangat.
  • The term “Inuit Nunangat” is a Canadian Inuit term that includes land, water, and ice.
  • Inuit consider the land, water, and ice, of our homeland to be integral to our culture and our way of life.
  •  Many families are struggling to meet their basic needs in areas such as safety, housing, and getting enough food to eat.
